Good with paper

Jerome (pronounced ‘Jeremy’) Walker has been selling his origami creations in New York for 23 years. He used to sell his work in Union Square, but relocated to Park Slope after police officers at Union Square controversially arrested him for selling his art next to the weekend farmers’ market.

A self-taught artist, Walker creates jewelry, decorative boxes, and animal ornaments from brightly colored paper. Walker learned origami from how-to books at a young age, but now he goes beyond book patterns to create his own intricate designs.

Walker has made origami out of everything from a dollar bill to a sheet of paper the size of a football stadium. In this video, he talks about why he loves origami, and shares a few tips about being a successful artist.
